Abstract

|
the author reviewed his experience with the laparoscopic management of comon duct stones and compared it with the his experience of conventional open choledocholithotomy.
A variety of methods of clearing common duct stones were used laparoscopically as routinely used in the conventional choledocholithotomy via anterior vertical choledochotomy.
These include irrigation with large bore catheter, balloon-catheter manipulation, fluoroscotient with proven common duct stones managed by author during a 24-months period from 1992 to 1993. Of a total of 36 patients 16 patients were selected
with
any
special criteria.
Incidence of residual stone was way high(62.5%) in laparoscopically treated group (n=16 compare to 10% of conventional choledocholithotomy group (n=20).
The author also introduced a novel technique to improve stone learance rate, laparoscopic anterade sphincterotomy. The technique could be used via T-tube tract to cure initial failure of laparoscopic approach.
